Llamas and Alpacas of the Mid-Atlantic States

Welcome to LAMAS

Dedicated to providing education and support for anyone interested in llamas and alpacas

Mission Statement

The purpose of LAMAS, Llamas and Alpacas of the Mid-Atlantic States,  is to educate members and the public as to the breeding of, raising of, and caring for lamas and to promote and advance the interests of the lama community as a whole, while maintaining a high
standard of conduct.

This association primarily serves members residing in the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. It publishes a bimonthly newsletter, has frequent meetings for its members, and supports a larger conference and one or more lama shows each year. Members of this association agree to abide by a Standard of Conduct. You do not have to own alpacas or llamas to join LAMAS. Interest in camelids is the most important requirement. One can get either an individual membership or a double membership that also includes a sponsorship of a veterinary membership. There is a free brochure of LAMAS members who are llama or alpaca breeders, which is available upon request.

Standards of Conduct

The members of LAMAS agree to provide for their lamas nutritious food in sufficient quantity, necessary medical care, proper drink, air, space, and shelter, and to deal in matters relating to lamas in a fair and honorable manner.
Info about Us
LAMAS supports various events and organizations.  Meetings, held at member farms or other public locations,  are  scheduled every 2-3 months and are held  in conjunction with a presentation of interest to camelid owners.   Non members are welcome to attend as guests.
The LAMAS Newsletter is published bi-monthly and includes member advertisements and assorted camelid related articles.
The Learning About Lamas pamphlet includes basic camelid facts and general information resources. It is free and available for members to copy and distribute.
LAMAS, through its offering of sponsored veterinary memberships, maintains a list of veterinarians experienced in working with llamas and alpacas.

LAMAS Fiber Group

LAMAS is forming a group of those members interested in camelid fiber,
both llama and alpaca. The meetings for this group will be separate
from membership meeting and the focus of each meeting will be decided by the group. Our first meeting will be centered around learning about the various properties of camelid fiber. If you would like to attend please email Linda at ljb@graustarkllamas.com to be put on the email notification list
